How to Administer Harmony FIP Capsules
1. Ensure an Empty Stomach:
Administer capsules when your cat’s stomach is empty. Avoid food and water 90 minutes before and 45 minutes after administering the capsule.
2. Prepare the Capsule:
Make swallowing easier by coating the capsule with a small amount of gravy or using a soft treat.
3. Hold the Capsule:
Grip the capsule between your thumb and index finger.
4. Secure Your Cat's Head:
Gently hold your cat’s head from above, tilting it back over her shoulder. Use your little and ring fingers to open her mouth by applying slight pressure on the lower lip and front teeth.
5. Administer the Capsule:
Quickly place the capsule as far back on the tongue as possible to trigger the swallowing reflex. Close your cat’s mouth and hold it shut while returning her head to a normal position.
6. Stimulate Swallowing:
Gently rub your cat’s nose or throat, or blow lightly on her nose. You can also follow up with a bit of tuna juice, a liquid treat (like Churu or Lickables), flavored broth, or water using a syringe or offer it in a teaspoon or bowl.
7. Positive Reinforcement:
Immediately after administering the capsule, reward your cat with treats, brushing, petting, or playtime to create a positive association with the experience.
8. Follow Dosing Instructions:
Carefully follow the dosing instructions provided by your FIP Research DVM (Feline Infectious Peritonitis Research Doctor of Veterinary Medicine).
